A 44-year-old woman has died following a house fire in North Tawton during the early hours of this morning (Friday, July 11).
The fire service was called at around 2.40am to the address in Arundell Road and sent six fire appliances to the scene, while neighbouring properties were evacuated.
Police were called in at around 4.40am when the 44-year-old woman was found, but sadly she was confirmed dead at the scene.
Devon and Cornwall Police said her next of kin have been informed, but formal identification had not yet taken place.
They said the cause of the fire is not thought to be suspicious.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters used hose reel jets and wore breathing apparatus to extinguish the first floor fire.
It said the first floor was severely damaged by fire and the ground floor was badly damaged by heat, smoke and water. The casualty was located on the first floor.
