Work to refurbish the tennis courts at Westward Ho! Park and install a Changing Places Toilet facility has been carried out by Northam Town Council in time for the summer holidays.

The council has also announced it has teamed up with ARC (Atlantic Racquet Centre) to provide Tennis Camps at the park this summer, starting next Monday (July 29).

It is hoped the newly improved tennis courts will provide a great setting for the summer tennis camps, which are for local children aged from seven to 16 years and they will run over four consecutive Mondays during the holidays.

The first camp will be on Monday, July 29, starting at 9am and finishing at 3.30pm.

A number of Torridge district councillors have supported this summer activity with £1,950 from their grant allocation which has subsidised the places. A half day will cost £4.25 and a whole day £8.50.

Visit https://www.atlanticracquetcentre.co.uk/arc-westward-ho for more information and to book a place.

There is also an opportunity for a whole local household to play for just £35 per year – visit www.northamtowncouncil.gov.uk for more details.

In addition, the council has also provided a Changing Places toilet facility opposite the tennis courts, designed for anyone with a disability who is unable to use standard toilets.

The Changing Places Toilet is fully accessible and designed to help bring major, life-enhancing freedoms to the 14.1million disabled people and the 250,000 people with complex needs in the UK who are unable to use a standard toilet.

This toilet is fitted with an adult-sized changing table, a harness, a shower and a height adjustable sink.
