Treat your car to a magical mystery journey around the North Devon countryside with the Braunton Caen Rotary Charity Car Tour this May.
On Sunday, May 12, owners of cars of any description are invited to set off from Braunton on an 80-mile route off the beaten track, following a map and clues to complete an entertaining quiz, before finishing with a cream tea.
Entry is £45 per vehicle including all refreshments and all net takings from the event are going to North Devon Hospice.
The big drive out begins with a bacon roll and tea or coffee at The Williams Arms in Braunton. The route is a closely guarded secret until the day and it changes each year.
All are welcome to sign up and any vehicle can take part, as long as they arrive at the start with a full tank or charged battery!
Numbers are limited and people wishing to participate are urged to sign up as soon as possible via the details below.
Braunton Caen Rotary started the event at around the same time as it took on the running of the Braunton Wheels show in 2011 and allowing for Covid restrictions, this year will be the 11th year for the Car Tour.
“We had a couple of vehicle enthusiasts who thought it would be a great activity to run on the ‘Drive It’ day each year,” said Roger Byrom, Braunton Caen Rotary President.
“Every year we produce a new route in and around North Devon travelling approximately 80 miles, though we find some participants may do a couple more than that as they are so keen on answering every question on the quiz that they turn around and go back to find a missed clue!
“This forms such good camaraderie during the day with cars passing each other waving and laughing as they search out the clues.
“It’s such a great day out. I have lived in North Devon most of my life but every year the Car Tour takes us down roads I didn’t know existed!”
Each year the event raises money for a local charity, which this year is North Devon Hospice. Past good causes have included FIG (Families in Grief), Care for Kids North Devon, the Calvert Trust, Children’s Hospice South West, ShelterBox and other Rotary supported charities.
