After two decades of honing her craft in the sun-drenched landscape of Australia, acclaimed potter Elke Lucas is making a return to her roots in North Devon.

Elke is set to open her highly anticipated Northam Studio and Gallery this April, marking a significant milestone in her celebrated career.

Elke started her pottery journey at Welcombe Pottery, where she worked with the traditional red North Devon earthenware.

Lucas then ventured to Australia, where she established her studio in the picturesque sub-tropical town of Noosa. There, she explored the rich diversity of local clays, incorporating porcelain and stoneware into her repertoire of wheel-thrown creations.

Now, having come full circle, she finds herself back in North Devon. She is drawing fresh inspiration from the region’s breathtaking landscapes and locally sourced clays and is working in a beautiful light-filled studio that was formerly the Family Butchers in Northam.

Her latest collection exudes a natural sophistication, with each piece embodying a serene beauty that seamlessly integrates into modern life.

The Northam Studio and Gallery will officially open its doors to the public with a special event on Friday, April 5th, from 6-8 pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Elke Lucas in person and witness the unveiling of her latest works.

Additionally, the gallery will operate with regular hours from Wednesday to Friday, 11 am to 4 pm, providing pottery enthusiasts the opportunity to explore and acquire these unique pieces directly from the artist.
