Two members of the team at North Devon National Trust are taking on the challenge of walking the 10-mile distance from Arlington Court to the Heddon Valley in April to raise money for a new ‘lending library’ of outdoor clothing for visitors – including wellies.
Amy U’Ren and Kate Tregellas, volunteering and community officers for North Devon National Trust, will be joining up the two properties with a walk across the Exmoor landscape on Thursday, April 4, that takes in all the challenges of North Devon in springtime.
They want to raise awareness of the difficulties of accessing the outdoors without proper equipment, and fundraise for a new ‘outdoor clothing lending library’ that will be available at the Heddon Valley and at Arlington Court.
Amy said: “Accessibility, or lack of it, comes in many forms, and one barrier to accessing the outdoors is not having access to clothing and footwear that can make the difference between people feeling confident to get out and about in nature or staying at home – blisters and soggy clothes would ruin a walk for anyone.”
They ask people to donate to their JustGiving page to try and raise their target of £250 to buy wellies and waterproofs that will be kept at the Heddon Valley and at Arlington Court.
These will be available for community groups, charities and visitors to borrow when they’re out and about in the countryside at Arlington Court and in the Heddon Valley.
If you would like to donate, please visit: www.justgiving.com/page/walking-for-wellies.
Donations of outdoor clothing are also welcome – please bring any good quality, lightly-used outdoor clothing and footwear donations to the Heddon Valley Ranger office/Welcome Hub or Arlington Court Visitor Reception. Particularly walking boots (all ages), wellies, and waterproof or rainproof coats in good condition.
