If you can spare a pound to help change a local life, North Devon Hospice needs your support in the week of 5th – 9th February.

The annual ‘Pitch in a Pound’ event returns for 2024 and aims to raise as much as possible in just one week, with events taking place right across North Devon to give you a chance to contribute your £1 towards the cause.

Lisa MacKenzie, from North Devon Hospice, said: “You’d be amazed at the difference a pound can make to those affected by a life-limiting illness, especially collectively when the whole of North Devon gets involved. You can help someone enjoy a delicious home-cooked lunch made by our chefs, help reduce pain thanks to specialist medication, or raise a smile at one of our art therapy sessions for families. But these amazing moments can only take place if we all get behind the initiative and ‘Pitch in a Pound’ together.”

In previous years, well over 100 local businesses, schools and community groups took part.

They held events ranging from raffles and dress-down days to a sponsored chest wax! Now, the call is going out to those who’d like to sign up their place of work or group.

Lisa added: “There are already lots of groups signed up to take part and they’ve got some really fun activities planned for the day. So this is an opportunity to get your workplace, school or group to join in and contribute to an amazing day of fundraising across North Devon.

“Your support will help people like the young lad from South Molton who recently lost his Dad, who we’re supporting through his bereavement. This will be the toughest time in his young life, and you can help make sure he doesn’t go through it alone.”

To make things even easier for people to take part this year, you can even request the special ‘Squares’ game sheet, which will be sent straight to you in the post. The sheet has 50 or 100 squares, which staff, customers or pupils can buy for just £1. When the sheet is full, the winning number is revealed, and the lucky owner wins a prize!

North Devon Hospice is marking its 40th anniversary in 2024, but this is a crucial time for the charity’s future. The local need for hospice care is rising fast, while donations have dropped.

Lisa said, “In North Devon Hospice’s 40th anniversary year we’re inspired by the uplifting care provided over that time, but your support is needed to ensure your hospice is here in the future; caring for you, time after time.”
