Staff and guests at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks have raised nearly £2,000 to help provide support for cancer patients in North Devon.

The money was raised for the Fern Centre through bucket collections and the sale of reusable cups during last year’s summer season at the holiday destination hotspot.

It will help the cancer and wellbeing centre at North Devon District Hospital to offer a whole range of free information, complementary therapies, counselling and support for cancer patients and their families.

The Fern Centre, which is wholly funded by Royal Devon Hospitals Charity (formerly known as Over and Above), supported nearly 350 patients in 2023, providing 780 counselling appointments and 309 complementary therapy appointments.

It also provided 150 accommodation bookings to enable people to be close to loved ones receiving treatment at the hospital.

Kate Constable, Royal Devon Hospitals Charity community fundraiser, said: “Summer might seem a distant memory but the team at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks have brought us a massive ray of sunshine with such a fabulous donation.

“Thank you so much to the staff and guests for such generous support. Every penny raised will help provide vital support to cancer patients and their families at a time when they need it most.”
