Motor biking Santas will be heading through Somerset and Devon on Saturday, December 9 to raise festive cheer in support of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The ride to the charity’s Little Bridge House hospice at Fremington starts at Taunton Asda at 9.45am and will pick up more riders at the Wellington McDonald’s (10am) and The Log Cabin Diner on the A361 North Devon Link Road (10.45am) enroute to the hospice.

The bikers will be stopping in South Molton town centre at around 11am, where there will be a break for refreshments. There will also be a collection for CHSW by employees of Alun Griffith (Contractors) Ltd, which is sposnoringnthe stop and staff will be servcing out hit drinks and pasties.

South Molton Town Band will be playing in the square and it is hoped the event will be a family festive occasion.

The riders will then regroup at Seven Brethren Bank in Barnstaple for a 12noon departure and are expected to arrive at Little Bridge House in Fremington at 1pm.

The annual Santas on a Bike fundraiser has raised thousands of pounds for CHSW over the years, while bringing smiles to the faces of people who line the various routes to watch them.

Organisers said: “We’re expecting dozens of Santas, snowmen, elves and reindeer riding bikes covered in festive decorations.

“Please spread the word, invite your friends and support your local children’s hospice – let’s make this the biggest and best year ever.

“All bikes, trikes and quads are welcome and the ride is fully L-plate friendly. Don’t worry if you’ve not attended a group ride before, you’ll be made very welcome. The route will be fully marshalled so you won't get lost.

“The ride takes place entirely on open public roads so all bikes should be road legal and all normal road rules apply.”

Mary Gray, area fundraiser for Children’s Hospice South West said:

“We are really looking forward to seeing the Santas on a Bike again this year and want to say a huge thank you to the event organisers and the riders for all the work that goes into making this happen.

“This is such a highlight in our festive calendar at Little Bridge House, the families staying love seeing all of the Santas arriving, and the money raised helps the charity to continue to provide vital care and support to local families when they need it most.”
