On September 9 pipe bands from all over the south of England and Wales will be back this year to take part in Bideford Carnival and then form up for the now traditional Massed Pipes & Drums on Bideford Quay.

As usual, the individual pipe bands will be taking part in the first and last parts of the carnival, they will not be marching around the top of the town, so if you like the sound of the pipes the best place to watch from is on Bideford Quay.

The Massed Pipes & Drums event starts at approximately 7.45pm, depending on how long it takes the carnival to tour the town.

As soon as the carnival has cleared the Quay, the Barnstaple Town Youth Marching Band will be entertaining the crowds, while the pipe bands prepare themselves to take centre stage, to parade along Bideford historic Quayside.

The evening is hosted by the Bideford Youth Pipe Band. This year they are looking forward to welcoming to the 17th Bideford Massed Pipes & Drums as well as pipers and drummers from: Cheltenham Pipe Band, City of Bristol Pipes & Drums, City of Exeter Pipes & Drums, City of Plymouth Pipe Band, City of Swansea Pipes & Drums, Henllys Pipe Band from South Wales, Kernow Pipes & Drums from Cornwall, North Devon Pipes & Drums, Rose & Thistle Pipes & Drums from Hampshire, Shirley Pipe Band from Birmingham, Welsh Piping Society from Cardiff and Wiltshire Caledonian Pipes & Drums.

Bideford is the only place in the South West where you can see so many pipers and drummers performing together and all for free!

There is nowhere else you can get close up to over 100 pipers and drummers, it is quite an experience to feel the power of Massed Pipes and Drums.

Many of the pipers and drummers will be playing again in Bideford on the Sunday morning (September 10) for a more informal get-together.

Piping In The Park takes place in Victoria Park. This is a chance for the players to have a bit of fun - a pipe band jam session.

They will be playing a variety of tunes from 11am for an hour or two, so why not come along and request a tune.
