The open event at Atlantic Academy
Atlantic Academy, located between Bideford and Bude, has opened its doors to excited Year 6 students for a day of exploration and discovery of their new school.
Just before the end of term, the academy, a member of Athena Learning Trust, has invited primary school students who will be joining Year 7 in September to learn all about their new school, try new activities, and meet future schoolmates in preparation for the new year.
The open afternoon provided a series of thrilling educational activities, including sampling delicious food made by Year 10 Design and Technology students at a pop-up café and learning all about options to pursue their passion for hospitality or catering thanks to the academy’s wide curriculum and dedicated resources.
For students who have their eyes set on creative pursuits, the academy also hosted a thought-provoking art exhibition with pieces from Year 11 students who have been studying Art and Photography. The students have been creating across mediums, with the opportunity to try painting, film development, and pottery amongst others.
Atlantic students from across Year 7, 8, and 9 took up important leadership roles for the afternoon and lent a helping hand to the incoming students by giving them a full tour of the school and its facilities, getting the excited visitors ready for starting their secondary school experience.
The academy is also hosting an upcoming open afternoon in October for prospective students to tour the school’s exceptional facilities first-hand and see what life and learning at the Atlantic Academy is like.
Lynsey Slater, Principal at Atlantic Academy, said: “Our primary school open afternoons are an important and exciting event to welcome our incoming students and introduce them to our wonderful school community. Thanks to all our terrific Atlantic students and staff, the afternoon was a huge success.
“It was lovely to see future students talking and learning about the great work that is taking place across our year groups, particularly seeing them so enthusiastic about all the activities they can get stuck in with from September.”
