The Taw and Torridge Wildfowling Club
Volunteers from the Taw and Torridge Wildfowling Club collected bags full of plastic bottles and other rubbish during their annual litter pick.
Club members met at Fremington Quay, near Barnstaple in North Devon, on Sunday, August 13.
North Devon District Council provides bags, gloves and litter pickers for the annual event, and disposes of all rubbish collected.
The litter pick, which focussed on the River Taw estuary, is part of the club’s ongoing commitment to the preservation of the marsh over which its members shoot and its environmental state.
Over the years members have built a strong relationship with North Devon Council and worked hard to rid the marsh of disposed rubbish which has been locally discarded or washed up through the tidal push.
The club’s conservation programme also sees it distribute and maintain duck tubes in prime mallard nesting sites to reduce the chance of predation and facilitate the best environment for healthy annual breeding of wild duck.
