Brand new discount store opened in Barnstaple

A beautiful mantlepiece ornament for £1? A whole new outfit for under £5? It’s all possible at North Devon Hospice’s brand-new discount store.

Found on Joy Street in Barnstaple town centre, the shop offers customers absolutely amazing deals, which is why items have been flying off the shelves so fast!

Shop manager, Sue Quinlan, says customers have been popping in again and again, once they’ve discovered how many bargains are to be found.

“The reaction from local people has been amazing. We have priced everything to fly off the shelves, and that’s exactly what we’ve seen!” she said.

“It’s no secret that shoppers are looking for great value at the moment, which is why we’ve created this discount store. You can pick up anything from books and games to vintage clothes. Not a single item will break the bank, but every purchase will make a real difference to North Devon Hospice.”

The funds raised from the new shop will help care for local people as they face a life-limiting illness like cancer. North Devon Hospice supports over 3,000 patients and family members each year, providing physical and emotional care when it matters most.

There has been a sharp rise in the need for hospice care locally, but a decline in donations to the charity due to the cost-of-living crisis.

All those who shop in the charity’s new discount store will be making a real difference.

“These are bargains with a difference,” said Sue. “Not only are you picking up amazing value, but your purchase will help a local family in their time of need. So come on down and see what we’ve got in store. Even if you’ve been in recently, the stock on our shelves is changing every day, so you never know what sort of deal you might find.”

Victoria from Barnstaple loved her visit to North Devon Hospice’s discount store this week, picking up an entire new outfit for £8.

“This was really unexpected, but I found a great skirt and sparkly top to wear at a party next week. There was even a matching headscarf and some fancy shoes in my size. To get all of that for under a fiver was such a surprise, but I was chuffed to bits! I’ll definitely come back again, because I know I’ll find something else to tempt me, but I can treat myself because everything is such a bargain! In these times, a shop like this is exactly what Barnstaple needs.”
