A winter wonderland greeted many in North Devon and Torridge this morning but it also brought with it widespread disruption due to snow and ice.
There is hazardous driving conditions on many roads, particularly those on higher ground, on or near Exmoor and on the A39 towards Cornwall.
Drivers are being asked to stay at home and not travel unless their journey is essential – and if they do travel, allow plenty of time and turn back if conditions become too treacherous.
The Devon County Highways Devon Alert service reported this afternoon that the A39 at Baxworthy near Hartland is still blocked due to vehicles becoming trapped by snow and ice.
The A386 between Hatherleigh and Landcross (Bideford) also has vehicles stuck, with traffic affected.
On Exmoor, around Parracombe, Lynton and Lynmouth, Brendon and Countisbury, many roads are impassable except to 4x4s and some communities are temporarily cut off to those with ordinary vehicles.
The South Molton area has also seen a layer of snow.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning of disruption due to snow and ice for the western side of the country, including North Devon, which is in force until 12noon on Sunday at least.
