A North Devon firm that started 2022 with a high-profile visit from then Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak MP, is ending the year with a jobs bonanza.
Pall Corporation in Ilfracombe has more than a hundred open positions as the biotech firm is expanding in the town, taking its workforce to almost 900 people. The American firm’s investment is great news for North Devon as a whole according to the site General Manager Peter Brocklesby:
“When Rishi Sunak MP visited our plant back in January, he saw the warehouse space that we were about to convert to extend our production facilities. Now, ten months on, those cells as we call them are nearly ready to begin producing filters that are used in the manufacture of things like vaccines, cancer treatments as well as the food, drink and many other products. These are good jobs that are available at a well run company.”
Pall filters made in Ilfracombe were extensively used during the Covid crisis as vaccine manufacturers worldwide had to quickly increase production. Pall extended its workforce at the time but with demand growing for filtration products to help clean everything from medicines to producing electronic equipment, more staff are needed. The work undertaken by Pall in Ilfracombe is important for lots of industries and Mr Brocklesby hopes that people do indeed feel pride that they’re helping:
“We talk a lot about feeling proud here at Pall. The filters we make will be used to create things like lifesaving cancer treatments that are needed by people in our community as well as worldwide. The food and drink we eat, the electronics within our computers, cars and so on, all need to be filtered during the production process. That’s where our filtration products end up. You can really feel like you’re making a difference when you come and work at Pall in Ilfracombe.”
As 2022 begins to draw to a close, thoughts will turn to 2023 as people plan their year ahead. The Pall Corporation hopes that with its new facilities in Ilfracombe combined with work that has a high value in terms of pay and a sense of accomplishment, as well as its support for local charities, subsidised canteen and other benefits; that a job at Pall will be on Christmas lists this festive season.
