Recycle Christmas cards to help plant trees

RECYCLE your unwanted Christmas cards and help to plant new trees is the New Year message from the region’s own environmental champion.

Mrs Recycle, aka Cathy Karniewicz, is calling on local people and schools to collect and donate their unwanted cards to the Woodland Trust to support its ongoing tree planting campaign.

During January cards can be left at M&S stores in Barnstaple or Bideford’s Atlantic Village, as well as at local recycling centres and charity shops.

Mrs Recycle would also like to hear from local schools who have set up their own card collection points and is happy to monitor who collects the most, with a free woodland tree workshop on offer to the winning school.

The Woodland Trust has planted some 20 million native trees during its 14 year campaign, recycling around 700 million cards in the process.

Anyone visiting the trust website at www.moretreesmoregood.org.uk/cards can vote for trees to be planted in their region. Schools or individuals interested in setting up collection points or finding out more can contact Cathy Karniewicz on info@mrsrecycle.co.uk or call (01271) 345806.
