Skate park trespassers delaying Barnstaple project

THE long awaited skate park at Rock Park in Barnstaple is nearly finished but keen skaters are being asked to hang on just a little bit longer.North Devon Council has been approached by worried members of the Rock Park SK8 Committee and Gravity Engineering Limited (the appointed contractors) who have noticed keen skaters using the skate park when it is not yet finished. Dan Gaunt, member of the Rock Park Skate Committee, said : "After working hard for six years to get to this stage where it's almost finished, I am a little disappointed to see people breaking into the skate park to ride it when its unfinished."I understand people can't wait to skate it but they just need to know the more this happens the longer it's going to take to get it open."Glenn Field, member of the Rock Park Sk8 Committee, said: "The damage needs to be fixed every time somebody breaks in. I am hoping that by reading this everyone could just hold off for that little bit longer so we can all get in the park and enjoy it after waiting for so long."Brendan Jarvis, Director of Gravity Engineering, says: "It is important for people to recognise the safety issues. The skate park is still a building site, with sharp objects and loose works that are likely to cause harm. "There is potential to not only injure yourself, but you could also damage works in progress, which may include surface damage to concrete that has not set properly. Trespassers also run the risk of arrest for breaking and entering into a construction site."The skate park is expected to be completed and open to the public at the end of April.
