SIR - Having just returned from a visit to my mother, who resides in Newport, I write to say how appalled I am at the state of the footpaths and bridge behind Cater Road.I understand that the council has just spent money clearing the debris from the stream (including a mattress and ironing board and the usual shopping trolleys) and fixingup new fencing.Within days, part of the new fencing was torn down and disappeared and the area is full of debris once again.Where are the community police, I ask? I have never seen any patrolling this area and I visit regularly. It is time that the culprits were stopped instead of wasting council money. Not so many years ago, there were ducks swimming along this stream and the area was very pleasant. Times have changed.Name and address supplied.
