Students learn about zoo jobs

STUDENTS from local schools and colleges went wild at Exmoor Zoo as they found out what a career working with animals might be like. The Aspire event organised by North Devon College gave the 45 learners an insight into three very different career choices

STUDENTS from local schools and colleges went wild at Exmoor Zoo as they found out what a career working with animals might be like.The Aspire event organised by North Devon College gave the 45 learners an insight into three very different career choices in Animal Care.They discovered what it was like to step into they shoes of television wildlife personality Johnny Kingdom, finding out more about his TV and book work and years of observing the creatures of Exmoor.The group workshops continued with Exmoor Zoo keeper and education officer Steve Eddy - whose work includes travelling around North Devon giving talks and handling demonstrations with a variety of beasties. Veterinary nurse Kirsty Harrison from Charter VetsThe visitors also observed a different aspect of animal care, as they met both human and canine members of the North Devon Police Dog Handling Unit, who provided a series of demonstrations and talks on the work they do.Caya Munro, who arranged the event, said it was one of 65 Aspire activities taking place this year, looking at different careers, raising aspirations amongst students and showing them the kinds of career paths which are on offer.There is more information at www.ndevon.ac.uk/college_events !
