THE Berrynarbor Community Shop has been named as a finalist in the regional Countryside Alliance Awards.Villagers set up a Community Enterprise company to run the shop and post office on land leased by North Devon Council at a peppercorn rent.Brian Holme, head of community and leisure services at North Devon Council, said: "All the volunteers have shares in this facility and provide volunteer time to help run it. Selling local produce, it is one of the success stories for rural country life."The shop is competing in the Village Shop/ Post Office section of the competition. Other finalists are Maiden Bradley Village Shop, Warminster; and Winsford Stores, Minehead.The winner will be announced early next year.
