SIR - Fred Oathill gave us many reasons for not wanting to be governed by the EU, including the fact that if we're swallowed up by the EU, we will "have about as much clout as a parish council".The 1973 referendum asked did we want a trading agreement with the EEC; it did not ask if we wanted political union nor if we wanted to be run by the EU.
