Great Torrington Community School will change to Foundation status next April.School governors agreed the move on Thursday night. It will mean that the governors - and not the local education authority - will own and manage the school's land and buildings. They will also decide on admissions policy and become the staff's employers.Head teacher Dianne Nicholson said on Friday: "This will make us much more of a community school, as we will be owned and run by our governors, who are all local people. Foundation status is primarily a management change. It will allow us to manage and lead this school more effectively, which in the long term will enable us to further improve the children's education.
