AN Army helicopter has crashed near Torrington, killing two crew members.Emergency services rushed to the scene on Thursday afternoon after the aircraft came down in fields near Kingscott to the south east of the town.One casualty was pronounced dead at the scene and CPR was carried out on the second. He was then airlifted to North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple where he later died. A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service told the Gazette they had received a call at 4pm and sent a land ambulance plus the North Devon Air Ambulance to the crash site. The Squirrel helicopter was believed to have flown from RMB Chivenor on a military exercise.Two fire appliances from Torrington attended the scene and roads in the area were closed for a time.Police said power lines had been brought down and some homes in the area were without power for a time. It is understood no civilians were injured or buildings damaged.
