Let us introduce ourselves, we are Barnstaple Town Council. We would like to give you a snapshot of what we do for the town.Â

There are 24 Councillors representing the seven town wards. These Councillors include Barnstaple’s Mayor and the Deputy Mayor. Our Councillors want to hear from you and champion your issues on your behalf.Â

In January 2021 we took the management of Rock Park in-house and we hope that you can already see a big difference. We’ve had great feedback, which we welcome from our community.Â

Other work we undertake includes:Â

  • Maintaining the Highway verges and planted areas across the townÂ
  • Work within the town centre on planters, benches, weed control, providing some of the hanging baskets and watering to contribute to a clean and safe town centreÂ
  • Working closely with Barnstaple In Bloom who received two awards this yearÂ

The Town Council has a large Civic and Ceremonial role within the town. Events include:Â

  • The long-held tradition of the Fair Proclamation,Â
  • Children’s Remembrance and Remembrance SundayÂ
  • Christmas FayreÂ
  • You can also request the presence of the Mayor or Deputy Mayor at events across the town.Â
  • We also run The Castle Centre and St John’s Community Centre, these can be hired by you.Â
  • Our Heritage and Culture is something we are proud of, The Guildhall being a focal point in town.
  • The Albert Clock & St Anne’s Arts and Community Centre are also our assets.Â
  • We run a community grant scheme which local charities and organisations are welcome to apply to.Â
