Kick back at Appledore Music Festival this weekend

A host of performers have plenty to offer at venues around Appledore right through until Tuesday

There's lots still to come this weekend at Appledore Music Festival

Appledore Music Festival is in full swing and there is still a packed programme of live music to enjoy from this evening (Saturday) right through until Tuesday.

There are gigs, jamming sessions and even street busking at venues around the village for the rest of the weekend, including at The Seagate Hotel, The Champ, The Beaver Inn, The Royal Hotel, Market Street Kitchen and the Coffee Cabin as well as St Mary’s Church.

The Song Box Buskers will be popping up in front of The Seagate opposite the quay every day until Sunday between 1-6.30pm, with local musicians busking for their supper.

Today (Saturday) there is a huge range to enjoy across the Village. The Champ Music Day is featuring one hour slots from a range of performers up until 7pm.

From 7-8.30pm head over to Tunes in the Temple at Sandy Brown’s Studio in the Old Glove Factory on Quay Street, as the amazing Rebecca Balzani Barrow performs inside an actual temple made of ceramic tiles. Entry £6.

From 8.30-10.30pm Calypso Jack is playing free at the Seagate Hotel, with plenty of tunes accompanied by bodhran, bones, cajon, ukulele, harmonicas and melodeon.

Blue rock trio Far From the Delta will be doing a free gig at The Royal Hotel in Bude Street from 8.30-10.30pm with their own take on Delta, Chicago and British blues.

The Champ’s house band Clear Waters Deep bring a free evening of covers ranging from jazz and blues to modern pop ballads from 8.30-11pm.

Ska legends The Liquidators are playing at St Mary’s Church Hall from 8.30-11pm, with entry £5 – a highly regarded band not to be missed.

The Beaver Inn hosts local singer songwriter and popular performer Sam Dowden this Saturday evening, with a free gig from 9-11pm.

On Sunday, The Champ Introducing Stage is hosting the finest young talent in Devon. Between 1 and 5pm a succession of new bands and musicians will take to the stage. Free entry.

From 5-7.45pm enjoy the Richard Malfait Lightly Mic’d Session at The Champ, with all musicians welcome. Free entry.

Appledore Brass Band will play on the quay on Sunday from 7-9pm – grab a Hockings (and a blanket if needs be!) and enjoy the free music.

Alternatively, pick up your feet with the Festival Ceilidh with the Appledore Ceilidh Band at St Mary’s Church Hall from 7.30-9.30, £8 entry with tickets available in advance via the festival website (see below).

There is a Festival Music Quiz at The Seagate from 7.30-9.30pm on Sunday, or alternatively visit The Beaver for Baz’s Marmalade Session as local legend Baz Bix hosts a special Appledore Music Festival Marmalade Club jam session. Singers and musicians of all levels welcome.

Sophisticated four-piece Gypfunk will bring a touch of Parisian café culture and tunes to The Champ from 8.30-11pm on Sunday, with free entry.

Monday evening from 8.30-10.30pm at The Beaver will see rhythm and blues and Mississippi grooves courtesy of What We Play Is Life featuring touring bass player Sophie Styles. Free entry.

Join a local music legend for the Steve Ruffé Acoustic Session at The Royal Hotel on Monday from 8.30-11pm – all musicians welcome, free entry.

Finally on Tuesday, June 3, Russell Bave is running an acoustic folk session to bring Appledore Music Festival to a close form 8-10.30pm.
