Former Chivenor soldier to take on Three Peaks Challenge for mental health charities

Soldier to scale UK’s highest peaks in 24 hours for men’s mental health charities

Former Chivenor soldier to take on Three Peaks Challenge for mental health charities

Sam and his team from their 100-mile South Devon hike last year.

An army serviceman who has spent four years based at Chivenor is set to complete the Three Peaks Challenge.

Sam Murphy, 21, is to take on this 24-hour challenge in December this year – a goal he has had for a long time.

He plans to spend 13 hours climbing the three peaks, and 11 hours will be spent driving between them.

This is not his first endurance challenge. Last year, he covered 100 miles across South Devon in five days in support of The Royal Marines and ABF.

This time, he will be raising money for two charities dedicated to men’s mental health: Movember and ManHealth.

He has a fundraising goal of £500 for each charity.

Sam is currently looking for a team to join him on his challenge. This includes two drivers, two walkers, and one medic.

Sam hopes that taking on this challenge to support these two charities will raise awareness of men’s mental health.

He is incredibly passionate about breaking down the taboo surrounding men speaking about their mental health, hoping to inspire men to come forward and be open about their struggles.

He comments: “I would expect this challenge to push both my physical and mental limits. But these tests and challenges will come with a sense of achievement once completed. I hope to show young men and women everywhere that if we come together, we can beat any challenge – mental or physical.”
