Barnstaple Taw Bridge closed due to man on wrong side of railings

The situation is now resolved but expect heavy traffic for a time

Traffic may be heavy in Barnstaple for a time this afternoon (Friday, May 23) after police closed the Taw Bridge due to a man on the wrong side of the railings.

Emergency services were called at 1.15pm following concern for welfare of a man who had been reported on the wrong side of the railings.

Police attended and closed the bridge but the man moved back to safety and was left in the care of the ambulance service.

The bridge is now open but it may be advisable to allow a little more time for your journey until traffic is flowing freely again.
