Giant beach art and meeting the denizens of the shoreline and rockpool will be taking place at Northam Burrows and Westward Ho! this May half term.

The free activities will be hosted by the burrows ranger team and are an opportunity to spend a couple of hours out in the fresh air doing something a little different.

On Tuesday, May 27 join the rangers to create some BIG beach art from 2 to 4pm. The ‘gallery’ will only be open for a short time untilt he tide returns, however! Meet on the beach near the Sandymere lifeguard hut (EX39 1XS).

Then on Thursday, May 29 from 2 to 4pm, join the rangers to explore the shore around Westward Ho! for a shoreline scramble.

The rangers will be heading south, along the water’s edge to reach the rock habitats below the sea pool. Here you can explore and learn all about the crabs, fish and other fascinating creatures in their natural habitat. Meet at Westward Ho! slipway.

No booking is needed, just turn up, but children must be accompanied by an adult and appropriate clothing and footwear is advised. Taking some snacks and drinks may also be a good idea.

Councillor Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin, lead member for culture and community engagement at Torridge District Council, said: “The events organised by our rangers are a fantastic way to take the opportunity to enjoy some fresh air, have fun and discover something new.  Best of all, all the family friendly activities are free.

“We are so lucky to have an award-winning ‘Blue Flag’ beach like Westward Ho! on our doorstep, so why not get outdoors this half term, who knows you might find your inner artist and newfound respect for our coastline.”
