Ilfracombe will continue its proud tradition of ‘living letters’ photographs on Capstone Hill with another iconic gathering on Sunday, May 11 to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
For more than a century people in the town have got together to create a living message on the face of Capstone at the seafront to commemorate special times in history.
These have included the end of World War One, royal coronations and as far back as Empire Day in the early 1900s.

In more recent times, the community has got together to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War in 2018, the 70th anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth in 2022 and last year there was group picture to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the RNLI.

This Sunday at midday all are welcome to gather again to create an iconic VE Day 80 picture.
In recent times the letters have been cut into the grass on Capstone in advance by the parks team from North Devon Council.
If you would like to be a part of the picture and occasion, please arrive at around 11.45am on Sunday for a photo at 12noon.
