Record-breaking numbers of walkers are being invited to join the more traditional parkrun events at locations across North Devon tomorrow (Saturday, April 26) including Woolacombe, Bideford and Barnstaple.

Health and fitness organisation parkrun, which runs free parkrun events across the country at countless locations every Saturday morning, has relaunched its parkwalk campaign to encourage even more people to take part in the five kilometre events.

In North Devon, all are welcome to go along to events tomorrow at 9am at Woolacombe, Barnstaple and Bideford, with a junior parkrun in Barnstaple on Sundays.

The Woolacombe Dunes event will set off at 9am near the Porthole Café at the end of Marine Drive car park – it is a free weekly 5k usually aimed at runners, but this weekend and in the weeks ahead, parkrun is hoping plenty of walkers will turn out too.

In Barnstaple, the parkrun is held at Rock Park, again at 9am and on Sundays Rock Park also hosts a junior parkrun at 9am. Bideford also hosts a parkrun at Victoria Park every Saturday at 9am.

The parkruns are part of a worldwide and free initiative aimed at getting people fitter while building community spirit and friendships – all are welcome to any of the events to walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate. There is no time limit and no one finishes last, it is not a race.
