John Hedge will be reading from his new poetry collection Life, death and football at The Plough Arts Centre in Torrington on Saturday 18 April
Poet and retired Senior Probation Officer John Hedge will be reading from his latest collection at The Plough Arts Centre Gallery in Torrington on Saturday 18 April at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5, payable on the door.
The event will mark the official launch of Mr Hedge’s second poetry collection Life, death and football, which follows his debut The Paddington Band.
The new book has been described by one reader as “remarkable: full of wisdom, moving observation and reflection, tenderness, compassion, anger, wit, humour.”
John, who moved to Torrington with his wife Gill four years ago, draws much of his inspiration from the local landscape.
His work explores themes of nature, memory and everyday life in North Devon.
Gill is a potter and the pair are active in the area’s creative community.
In addition to writing, John sings with the North Devon Choral Society and the choir at St Mary’s Church in Bideford.
The evening will feature readings from the new collection, which includes poems on the quirks of country life.
