A popular bus service connecting Exmoor and North Devon is set to return this summer.

First Bus in Somerset, in collaboration with Devon County Council and Somerset Council, will relaunch the Exmoor Explorer, which links Exmoor National Park to Minehead, Lynmouth and Ilfracombe.

Said Terrance James, Head of Network for First Bus in Somerset, said: “We're delighted to reintroduce the Exmoor Explorer for the Summer 2025 season. This service not only offers breathtaking views and a unique travel experience but offers residents and visitors an opportunity to explore the natural beauty of our region in a sustainable and enjoyable manner.”

The service will launch on Sunday 25 May, supported by funding from both councils through their Bus Service Improvement Plans.

It will operate at different levels during the low and high seasons to reflect varying demand.

The low season timetable will begin on 25 May using closed top double deckers.

From 24 July, the high season timetable will come into effect, featuring open top buses and an extended route reaching the Blue Anchor holiday park in Minehead.

Said Damien Jones, Deputy Director of Transport Operations, Environment and Waste at Devon County Council, said: “It's great to see the return of this popular and well-loved service. It's testament to the successful partnership involved and we're proud to be supporting it again this summer. The Exmoor Explorer is a great way to explore and enjoy everything Exmoor National Park has to offer without the hassle of having to drive yourself.”

The service will continue until Sunday 31 August 2025.

In line with the government's fare cap initiative, single journeys on the Exmoor Explorer will cost £3.

Travel passes will also be accepted.
