North Devon Council and Torridge District Council, in partnership with Screen Devon, have launched the ‘Filming in Torridge’ initiative aimed at attracting more film and TV productions to the region.
The initiative was kicked off with an event at The Royal Hotel in Bideford on March 31, bringing together industry professionals, council representatives, and property owners to explore how to enhance the area's appeal for production crews.
Key speakers included Claire Horrocks, Manager of Screen Devon, Jon Lockett from Torridge District Council, Steve Hart, a leading Location Manager, and Giuseppe Rossi, founder of Devon Film Logistics.
Plans were discussed to improve collaboration and broaden the range of locations available to filmmakers in North Devon and Torridge.
The initiative will involve the development of a locations directory to highlight the area's diverse filming opportunities.
Sites such as Clovelly, Harland Abbey, and Saunton Sands have already been featured in a variety of productions, but there is a growing demand for more versatile locations, including larger empty buildings, homes that could double as international properties, and period homes with scenic views.
Property owners who would like to offer their locations for filming are encouraged to send images and contact details to communications@torridge.gov.uk.
Sean Kearney, Head of Communities and Place at Torridge District Council, said:
“What an exciting way to kick-off the week and our new initiative. We heard some fascinating stories from a broad mix of people linked to the Film and TV industry, and were able to begin the process of building a network of locations and people to help make our area even more appealing to production teams from all over the world. This is the first step in what we hope can bring more film and TV crews to Torridge, and the broader benefits including revenue generated by hosting these productions and the longer benefits of screen tourism.”
