Selaine Saxby, former MP for North Devon, has been named the new Ambassador for the West Country Women’s Awards, following the departure of local businesswoman Alison Savory.

Selaine, who made history as North Devon’s first female MP, officially took on the role at a handover ceremony held at VitaliQi Holistic Health Clinic in Barnstaple.

Alison, who was a runner-up in the 2024 Health & Wellbeing category, shared that changes in her personal life prompted her decision to step down.

“I have absolutely loved being a part of the West Country Women’s Awards, raising the profile across North Devon,” she said.

“But it was fortuitous that Selaine and my paths crossed at exactly the right time. I hope her energy and enthusiasm will be a strong addition to the team.”

Selain said: “I’ve never had a sash before and could not be more excited about the opportunity to work with Alexis and build on Alison’s excellent work.”

She also encouraged those interested to get involved, as the awards are currently looking for new sponsors.

“The awards will continue to celebrate women’s achievements and raise funds for women’s charities across the region.”

The West Country Women’s Awards, co-founded by Alexis Bowater OBE, aim to celebrate women’s success in a range of industries, while also supporting causes that benefit women in the community.

The event has raised significant funds over the years, and with Selaine now in the ambassadorial role, the team hopes to continue inspiring and recognising the contributions of women throughout the West Country.
