The town of Barnstaple will host a series of events to celebrate International Women's Day 2025 on March 8.
The community will come together to honour the achievements and contributions of women through a weekend of exhibitions, markets, talks, and workshops.
At Pannier Market, the Crafts, Arts, Wares & Food Market will run from 10am to 4pm, showcasing handcrafted items, arts, and food from women-led businesses.
The Shambles will feature an art exhibition, Sore, by Nicky Ruddick, exploring women’s health, also running from 10am to 4pm.
Meanwhile, The Guildhall will host the Women’s History Exhibition, celebrating the stories of influential women in Barnstaple’s history, from 10am to 4pm.
Local groups and organisations will also be at Pannier Market, providing support and information on mental health, wellbeing, and community initiatives.
At The Guildhall, the day will begin with the Heritage Trail Launch at 10am with artist Rosetta Westbrook. Dr. Linda Henderson will give a talk at 11.15am on Alice Horwood, a trailblazer in Barnstaple’s history.
At 12pm, the National Trust will discuss the role of women in conservation.
The Women in Business Panel will follow at 1.30pm, with local businesswomen sharing their experiences.
At 2.15pm, Dr. Naomi Tyrrell will present Women & AI, exploring the impact of women in technology.
Finally, Alex Kelly and Sarah West will discuss ADHD and neurodivergence in women at 3pm.
Workshops and activities will run throughout the day, including crafting, STEM workshops, and wellness sessions.
A spokesperson for the event said: “This is the perfect opportunity to support local women-led initiatives, discover new talents, and connect with others in the community. Whether you’re looking to engage with thought-provoking exhibitions, learn something new in a workshop, or simply enjoy a fun day out, there’s something for everyone!”
