Barnstaple is set to join the list of Devon towns offering free adult cycle training sessions, thanks to a partnership between Active Devon and Devon County Council.
The initiative is designed to help adults of all abilities get cycling, improve their skills, and boost their confidence on two wheels.
The free sessions, aimed at beginners and those looking to build their cycling confidence, will take place at Tarka Trail Cycle Hire, conveniently located next to the train station. Participants will be guided by qualified instructors along the Tarka Trail, the UK's longest traffic-free cycling route.
Aaron Harverson, Cycling Champion for Active Devon, said: “We are thrilled to add Barnstaple to our adult cycle training programme. This is our 8th location in Devon, and we’re expanding to make this free training available to as many people as possible.
“By teaming up with local organisations, we can create even more chances to hop on your bike, gain confidence, and make cycling part of your daily routine or just for fun. It’s a fantastic way to take in Devon’s stunning green and blue spaces while enjoying all that Barnstaple has to offer on two wheels!”
Tim Huxtable, from Tarka Trail Cycle Hire, added: “We're delighted to be part of this cycle training initiative, helping more people gain confidence on two wheels. Cycling is a fantastic way to stay active, explore the beautiful North Devon countryside, and enjoy a greener way to travel, it's something everyone can benefit from!”
The first session will be held on Saturday, March 8.
The hour-long sessions are open to anyone aged 18 or over who lives or works in Devon. Free cycles and gear will be provided, meaning no equipment is necessary for those who sign up.
