M5 closed in both directions following serious collision

The M5 in Somerset is closed in both directions due to a serious collision, according to National Highways.

National Highways announced on X that the closure affects the stretch between Junction 25 at Taunton and Junction 24 at Bridgwater.

Avon and Somerset Police have been contacted for further details, and investigations are ongoing.

16.12pmAvon and Somerset Police issue an update to the Gazette:

“The M5 has been closed in both directions between junctions 24 (Bridgwater) and 25 (Taunton) after a serious collision.

“We were called at 2.43pm and emergency services are in attendance.

“The road is expected to be closed for some time. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and we thank them for their patience.

"If you were travelling in the area at the time and have any dashcam footage or information which could help our investigation, please call 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5225050845.”

15.35pm: National Highways confirms that Avon and Somerset Police are currently leading the response to an ongoing incident which has caused the road to be closed until further notice. Traffic management is in place with diversions. Diversion routes can be found here.
