Devon and Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses after what they describe to be a  “serious road traffic collision” occurred yesterday (January 28) on the A39 between Roundswell, Barnstaple, and Bideford.

Police were notified at around 1.10pm of a collision involving a Mitsubishi L200, a Ford Mondeo, and a South West Ambulance Trust Fiat Ducato ambulance.

As a result, an 88-year-old local man sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital.

His next of kin have been informed.

The drivers of the two other vehicles sustained minor injuries, and the road was closed while emergency services attended the scene.

It was reopened soon after 9pm on January 28.

Police are calling for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact the police via their website or by calling 101, quoting reference number 50250022925.

Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling 0800 555111.
