The RNLI in Clovelly has welcomed a new Lifeboat Operations Manager following the departure of James Dalziel, who stepped down at the end of 2024 after four years in the role.

James joined the crew just before the pandemic and guided the station through a particularly challenging period, ensuring that volunteers could continue their life-saving work safely.

His tenure was marked by several high-profile rescues and even a feature on the BBC’s Saving Lives at Sea.

Stepping into the role is Paul Jarrett, who the RNLI says brings a fresh perspective to the station.

With experience as a school governor and a long career in corporate banking, Paul is expected to build on the strong foundations laid by his predecessor.

James will remain involved with Clovelly RNLI, volunteering to host visits and educate the public about the charity’s vital work.

The RNLI has emphasised the importance of the Operations Manager role in the station’s daily operations.

Paul expressed his enthusiasm for the position, stating: “It’s an absolute honour to join the team at Clovelly. The crew has achieved some great things during James’ tenure as Operations Manager, and I’m looking forward to taking over the reins. Our volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that our crew are always ready to save lives at sea, and I can’t wait to be a part of that team.”

Clovelly’s volunteers have announced they have exciting plans for 2025, including the return of the popular Cobble Wobble fundraising run on May 4, as well as an extensive training programme to ensure crew members are fully prepared for their life-saving duties both on land and at sea.
