Royal North Devon Golf Club (RNDGC) has raised £2180 for Appledore Lifeboat, with the funds presented by the Veterans’ Captain, Clifford Brown, as part of his chosen charity for 2024.
The sum was collected throughout the year by the club’s Veterans Section, comprising over 125 members.
Key fundraising efforts included an Open Competition in June and various other events.
Presenting the cheque, Clifford Brown said: “I am very pleased to hand-over £2180 to help support the Lifeboat which is so important to our community and all those who go to sea or enjoy our coastline. It is very rewarding to be able to make this presentation as Appledore Lifeboat celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2025.”
Receiving the donation on behalf of Appledore Lifeboat, Roy Broad, Chairman of the RNLI Appledore Guild, said: “We are extremely grateful to the Veterans Section at RNDGC for their generous support during their own 160th anniversary year in 2024 and wish the members continued success in the new season.”
The RNLI relies entirely on public donations to provide its 24/7 rescue service around the UK’s coastline.
The golf club explained that stations like Appledore depend on the dedication of volunteers who serve as crew, fundraisers, and supporters to help save lives at sea.
Appledore Lifeboat, which plays a vital role in the local community, will mark its 200th year of operation in 2025.
