Torridge District Council has issued a second appeal to find a loving home for Dobby, a nine-month-old Collie who was abandoned in Great Torrington on 6 December.

With local rehoming charities still at capacity, the council is once again urging the community to step forward and provide Dobby with the care and companionship he needs.

Since coming into care, Dobby has made great strides in training.

His carers describe him as energetic, eager to learn, and quick to adapt.

His recall has significantly improved, and he is learning to follow commands such as "sit" and "wait."

Initially reactive towards other dogs, Dobby is showing progress in becoming more confident and less fearful.

Due to Dobby’s unknown history, the council is seeking a specific type of home.

Prospective adopters should meet the following criteria:

  • Carefully assess whether their household, including other pets or children, can accommodate Dobby’s needs.
  • Be prepared to provide plenty of mental stimulation and physical exercise, as Border Collies require both to thrive.
  • Ideally reside in Torridge or a neighbouring district, as a home visit by the Environmental Protection Team may be required.

The staff at the kennels, who have grown attached to Dobby, are confident he will make a loyal and loving companion for the right owner.

If you believe you can give Dobby the home he deserves, please get in touch with Torridge District Council by emailing environmental.protection@torridge.gov.uk.
