Captain Mark Read, Corps Officer for the Salvation Army in North Devon playing on Barnstaple High Street
The North Devon Salvation Army has announced a successful Christmas fundraising season, raising £6,682 through carol performances across the area during Advent.
Mark, Corps Officer for the Salvation Army in North Devon, could often be seen playing festive tunes on Barnstaple High Street and at local supermarkets, continuing a long-standing tradition that is the organisation’s primary fundraising effort of the year.
This year’s total included £3,154.53 raised on Barnstaple High Street, £901.26 at Tesco, £912.64 at Sainsbury’s, and £1,446.49 from various other events and venues across December.
The funds will stay in North Devon to support the Salvation Army’s local initiatives, including assistance for homelessness, housing, youth and family programmes, school outreach, and mental health support.
A spokesperson for the North Devon Salvation Army said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to anyone who has donated to us this December, as well as the supermarkets, shops, and spaces that have invited us to play. It’s lovely to see many people singing along to the carols we play and enjoying Christmas as a community.”
