Rooney’s departure is effective immediately, and Assistant Head Coach Mike Phelan and First Team Coach Simon Ireland will also leave their roles.
First Team Coach Kevin Nancekivell and Club Captain Joe Edwards will lead the team for the upcoming Sky Bet Championship match against Bristol City on New Year’s Day, while Goalkeeping Coach Daryl Flahavan will remain in his position.
In a statement shared on the club’s website, Rooney expressed gratitude to the club’s board, including Simon Hallett and Neil Dewsnip, as well as the staff, players, and fans for their support during his time at Home Park.
He also praised the dedication of his coaching team, describing Plymouth Argyle as a “special place” that will always hold a place in his heart.
Plymouth Argyle thanked Rooney and his staff for their contributions and wished them well for the future.
