Families spending Christmas in hospital will receive a boost this year thanks to a donation from Vistry Group, Britain’s largest housebuilder.
The company, which develops Bovis and Linden homes, has supported Care for Kids’ initiative to ensure every child on the children’s ward at North Devon District Hospital receives a Christmas gift.
Vistry, currently building homes at Bay View in Northam and The Pastures in Bideford, set up a collection point for donations.
Staff and residents from the Bay View development contributed presents, including board games, books, dolls, action figures, Lego sets, and fancy dress costumes.
Care for Kids, a North Devon charity, enhances the children’s ward and supports local families.
Frances Greenaway, a play specialist at the hospital and a volunteer for the charity, expressed her gratitude: “This can be a difficult time of year for families in hospital, as everyone would prefer to be at home over Christmas. We’re passionate about ensuring the magic of Christmas continues and are very grateful for the donations from the local community.”
Emma Mackay of Vistry Devon South West added: “We’re pleased to donate gifts again this year. The children’s ward team will now match the presents with individuals to ensure everyone receives a gift. Care for Kids is a fantastic local charity, and it’s wonderful to see this initiative so well supported.”
Vistry has said they are also contributing to the local community through its developments. The Pastures in Bideford will include 550 homes and provide over £3.16 million towards local infrastructure, including education, libraries, public transport, and cycle routes.
