Residents have been questioning the cost of the ongoing A361 Link Road project, which is set to improve transport access to North Devon.
The Gazette contacted Councillor Phillip Twiss, Cabinet Member for Finance for Devon County Council in hope to find some answers.
Councillor Twiss addressed these concerns to the Gazette, confirming that the total investment in the project by the county council is a maximum of £67 million.
"Residents are noticing that some sections are complete and opened, and other sections, as weather permits to complete associated work, such as white lining and coloured surfacing. The total investment in the project by Devon County Council is a maximum of £67 million, with any costs over that being met by the contractors," Councillor Twiss said.
The Gazette has reached out to Griffiths, the contractor responsible for the A361 Link Road project, to confirm whether the company has exceeded the £67 million limit and, if so, how much extra has been spent.
As work continues on the project, some sections of the road are already open, while other areas are waiting for weather conditions to complete the final tasks.
The project has been long anticipated by residents who are eager to see the improvements, and further updates on its progress and costs will be provided once confirmed by the contractor.
