With rent prices on the rise and new housing laws under debate, the Gazette is reaching out to North Devon residents to hear their experiences with renting.
According to the Office for National Statistics, UK private rents increased by 8.4 per cent in the 12 months to August 2024, slightly down from 8.6 per cent in July. In the South West, rent inflation was the lowest in England at 6.4 per cent.
The average rent across England now stands at £1,327.
Meanwhile, the government is debating the Renters' Rights Bill, which could bring significant changes to the rental market.
The bill, sponsored by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and led by Angela Rayner, aims to abolish fixed-term assured tenancies and introduce new obligations for landlords.
It was debated in Parliament on October 9, and is currently being reviewed by a Public Bill Committee, with a report due by November 28.
The Gazette wants to hear from you.
