The long-awaited upgrade to the A361 North Devon Link Road, which connects North Devon and Cornwall to the M5, is still ongoing, with no clear end in sight. 

Originally set for completion by the end of 2023, the project has faced delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic and supply chain issues, now pushing the completion date into summer 2024.

Here are some key dates in the project's timeline:

• 2015: Government announces funding for the development of a business case for the NDL Road.
• Summer 2016: Public consultation takes place, leading to a preferred option submission to the Department for Transport (DfT) in October.
• November 2020: Full Business Case approved by the DfT.
• December 2020: Contractor Alun Griffiths is awarded the contract for the 'Main Works.'
• January 2021: Construction begins with an original completion date set for the end of 2023.
• November 2022: Amendments to the scheme are approved, pushing the completion date to summer 2024.

This crucial 70km route links Barnstaple, Bideford, and the North Devon coast to the rest of the country, but ongoing roadworks have left many locals frustrated.
