Surfers Against Sewage have issued multiple alerts for sewage discharges impacting various beaches in North Devon. The following locations have been identified:
Pollution Alert: Storm sewage has been discharged from a sewer overflow within the past 48 hours.
Westward Ho! features a long sandy beach with a pebble ridge, situated at the mouths of the rivers Taw and Torridge. The beach is bordered by Northam Burrows Country Park. A sewer overflow at Nose Rock, located at the southern end, and overflows from the urban area may impact water quality, particularly after heavy rainfall.

Hele Beach is a small sand and shingle cove east of Ilfracombe, nestled within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A sewer overflow is located approximately 280m east of the beach, with additional discharges from Ilfracombe potentially affecting water quality.
The River Umber flows through the western end of Combe Martin Beach. A sewer overflow discharges into the Umber River about 30m upstream of the beach, with two additional discharges further upstream. Other urban area discharges may also degrade water quality, especially following heavy rainfall.

At Lynmouth, the East and West Lynn Rivers converge behind the beach and enter the sea as the Lynn River, surrounded by shingle and rock. Backed by wooded cliffs, Lynmouth is adjacent to Exmoor National Park. Two sewer overflows discharge into the River Lynn, with additional discharges from Lynton and Lynmouth urban areas potentially affecting bathing water quality, particularly after heavy rain.
Safety Reminder: Bathers and surfers are advised to exercise caution in these areas until water quality has been confirmed safe.
