Tesco shoppers in North Devon are in for a golden opportunity this Saturday (21 September) as the supermarket launches a special £500,000 giveaway at its Barnstaple Superstore on Rose Lane.

From 12pm to 1pm, customers will have a chance to win a share of HALF A MILLION POUNDS for local schools or children’s groups.

As part of Tesco’s Stronger Starts campaign, participants can take a lucky dip to find a gold version of Tesco’s famous blue voting token.

The Barnstaple customer who discovers the gold token will be able to select which of three nominated local schools or children’s groups will receive a £5,000 Golden Grant.

This grant can be used to purchase equipment or healthy food to support a better start in life for children.

Claire De Silva, Tesco Head of Communities said: “Schools and local projects are vital in supporting our children and our communities. We’re giving customers the chance to make a difference to a school or group that’s doing amazing work on their doorstep.”

The Golden Grants are part of Tesco’s Stronger Starts initiative, an £8 million grant programme in partnership with Groundwork UK.

These grants, awarded twice a year, aim to help schools and children’s groups provide nutritious food and healthy activities, such as breakfast clubs, snacks, and equipment for physical activities.

Local schools and children’s groups in North Devon can apply for a grant through Groundwork by visiting www.tescoplc.com/strongerstarts.

Successful applications will be put to a vote in their local Tesco store, where customers will choose which of the three projects they’d like to support by voting with a blue token.

Since the launch of Tesco’s Community Grants programme in 2016, over £100 million has been awarded to more than 50,000 local schools and community groups.
