Work has officially commenced on the second phase of the High Moor View development in Winkleigh, as regional housebuilder Allison Homes South West breaks ground for 75 new homes.
This marks a key milestone for the project, which has already seen the completion of its first phase earlier this year.
The development sits on historically significant land, where an archaeological dig in July uncovered the remains of a 1,800-year-old Romano-British enclosed farmstead.
The farmstead, believed to have housed an extended family and livestock, provided a fascinating glimpse into Winkleigh’s ancient past.
To engage the community, an open day was held to showcase replica artefacts and the findings of the excavation.
Shaune Hicks, Operations Director at Allison Homes South West said: “We’re excited to have officially started work on Phase two of our High Moor View development. Following the success of Phase One, where the homes proved to be extremely popular, we expect Phase Two to generate a similar level of interest.”
Developers say the second phase of High Moor View promises to bring cutting-edge, energy-efficient homes to the market.
Mr Hicks highlighted the introduction of advanced features, such as air source heat pumps, which are designed to reduce energy consumption, lower utility costs, and minimise the environmental impact, while maintaining comfort and style.
The first properties are expected to be available for sale later this year.
“The properties offer future homeowners the opportunity to invest in a home that not only meets their lifestyle needs but also contributes to a more sustainable future,” he added.
This new phase of development plays a pivotal role in Allison Homes South West’s broader growth strategy.
The company is actively pursuing further expansion across the region, aligning its plans with the government’s targets for much-needed housing.
Developers have said that the High Moor View development benefits from a prime rural location with easy access to local amenities, including schools, health centres, local businesses, and friendly pubs, offering residents a blend of modern living and a rich, historical backdrop.
