David receives the honour
A Bideford artist has achieved a significant milestone in his career.
David Dare has been unanimously accepted as an Associate Member of the esteemed Society of Graphic Fine Art (SGFA), also known as The Drawing Society.
This honour follows Mr Dare's successful exhibitions and sales at The Mall Galleries in St James's, London, during their Open Exhibitions, which led to his invitation to apply for membership.
Founded in 1919, the SGFA is dedicated to promoting fine drawing skills in both traditional and contemporary media.
With only 160 elected members, the Society remains highly selective, making Mr Dare's acceptance a remarkable achievement.
Mr Dare, who lives near North Devon’s rugged coastline, is well-known for his captivating landscapes and seascapes rendered in watercolour and acrylic.
Recently, he has returned to his roots, focusing on the human form in charcoal and graphite; a subject that first inspired his artistic journey and continues to fascinate him.
His work aims to capture the strength, vulnerability, and intricate details of the human figure, often conveying a sense of drama and occasional softness.
Currently, Mr Dare is exhibiting two of his charcoal and carbon pencil works, Seated Figure and Slumber, at The Burton in Bideford as part of the Westward Ho! and Bideford Art Society Exhibition, which runs from August 24 to October 13.
